They served some of the best pizza in the world as it was a local favorite of the town we were in. It has been almost 20 years and that one slice of pizza cant be forgotten. I have yet to find any pizza places near me that can compete. This was a healthy type of vegetarian pizza mind you. I hunted down the owner of the restaurant.

However, consuming a lot of pizza regularly can have a significant, negative impact on your health. Why Some Pizzas are Unhealthy
It’s not a secret that pizzas are unhealthy. The reason to why this is, is because of the ingredients regular pizzas are made with. Frozen pizzas are especially bad for you, as they tend to have a lot of trans fat which is the most unhealthy type of fat. It makes your cholesterol higher and can lead to heart problems. In one slice of pizza alone, there is roughly 18 grams of fat, 6 grams of which is saturated. The main ingredients that makes a regular pizza full of fat is cheese. Dairy products in general are known to be fattening and unhealthy. Cows milk is intended to feed a calf and help it to grow double its size and weight in a matter of weeks, which is why dairy products, such as cheese, are very fattening and not meant necessarily for human consumption. With that being said, cheese is not the most unhealthy ingredient in your standard pizza. The dough is often made with white flour, which piles on the amount of calories packed into a pizza. Oil is generally used too cook pizza which is also very bad for your body. Pizza lacks fiber and doesn’t have much nutritional value and also contains a lot of salt.
What can make a pizza healthy
Even though pizza in general is unhealthy, there are simple ways to make pizza nutritious and healthier. Vegetable pizza with no cheese in the healthiest and most nutritious pizza that you can put into your body. Without the cheese and possibly meat toppings, it cuts out the staggering amount of fat content in the pizza. Most vegetable pizzas are also made using whole-wheat crust, which also cuts out the white flour and will lower the amount of calories it has. There are a handful of low fat cheeses that you can add to your pizza without adding to the fat content. Cheeses such as Parmesan and mozzarella are low in fat and are often used on vegetable pizzas for a little extra taste.
Making a healthy pizza
Making a vegetable pizza yourself is the best option. You can go out to many vegetarian and vegan restaurants, but you would not know exactly what ingredients are going into your pizza. There are plenty of vegetarian recipes online, but to make a basic healthy vegetable pizza it is very easy and much like making a regular pizza.
Firstly, you want to start off by making sure that the dough you use is whole-wheat. You can buy crust readily made or roll out the dough and cook it yourself using a pizza stone or pan. A thin crusted pizza may be quicker to bake and the healthier option. Using oil and salt is recommended, but only a small amount should be ideally used. Then, once the crust is baked and is crispy and light, you can spread tomato purée onto the baked dough. To top the pizza, you can use any different vegetables that you want, such as: leek, cheery tomatoes, chopped cucumber, peppers and mushrooms. Cheese can be used if preferred, but low fat cheeses like Parmesan and mozzarella are more recommended. The pizza can then be put back into the oven and baked for around 20 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius (392 degrees Fahrenheit).
